Description
It is so important for young children to develop a solid understanding of numbers and letters in the early years, in order to set them up for learning success as they progress through school. This Beginner Learner’s Toolkit will get your little learners off to a great start immersing them in playful activities that focus on early literacy and numeracy skills as well as fine motor practise.
Please note: This toolkit has been designed to fit the Francheville Craft Storage System available at Spotlight stores Australia. The activities can still be created and used without this storage caddy. Ziplock bags would be a sufficient storage solution for these activities. I have included a shopping list to help you purchase the additional items required for this resource, however, users are encouraged to use what they already have within their own resource collection at home.
Activities include:
☆ Alphabetical order – students put the letters of the alphabet in order
☆ Beetle Legs – students match the letter of the alphabet on the beetle to the letter written on a peg (giving the beetle their legs)
☆ Upper/Lower – students match the ice-cream with their corresponding lower case ice-cream cone
☆ Mould It! – students use playdough to mould the letters of the alphabet
☆ Write It! – students write on laminated letters to practise their letter formation
☆ Lego Letters – students use lego to create the letters of the alphabet
☆ Tracing – students use the cards provided to trace over the lines
☆ Sounds – students match the beginning sounds with their picture card
☆ Number Line – students use the numbers to put them in order from 1-9
☆ Counting – students place beads in patty pans numbered 1-9
☆ Number Puzzles – students place the correct number of petals around the centre of each flower. The centre of the flower has the number of petals each flower requires
☆ Pincers – students use their pincer grip or tongs to move counters onto number mats
☆ Spell It! – students use counters with letters written on them to spell sight words
☆ Threading – students thread through the holes on each 2D shape following the number order provided
☆ Stamping – students use the stamps to write sight words in a mini notebook (sight word cards are editable)
☆ Beading – students use beads to spell sight words on pipe cleaners (sight word cards are editable)
