It is so important for young children to develop a solid understanding of numbers and letters in the early years, in order to set them up for learning success as they progress through school. This Beginner Learner’s Toolkit Volume 2, little sister to our original Beginner Learner’s Toolkit, will get your little learners off to a great start immersing them in playful activities that focus on early literacy and numeracy skills as well as fine motor practice.
 
Please note: This toolkit has been designed to fit the Francheville Craft Storage System available at Spotlight stores Australia. The activities can still be created and used without this storage caddy. Ziplock bags would be a sufficient storage solution for these activities. I have included a shopping list to help you purchase the additional items required for this resource, however, users are encouraged to use what they already have within their own resource collection at home.
 
Activities include:
Bend it! – students make letters of the alphabet with pipe cleaners

☆ Tie it! – students practice threading and knot tying on a laminated shoe
☆ Shape it! – students use playdough to make 2D shapes
☆ Build It! – students use paddle pop sticks to replicate patterns and shapes
☆ Punch It! – students strengthen their finger muscles using a hole punch and paper strips
☆ Thread it! – this activity combines threading and making patterns
☆ Count it! – students thread beads onto the monster’s hair strands
☆ Write it! – students trace over numbers to practice formation
☆ Sound it! – students complete the puzzles to match initial sounds with their pictures
☆ Clip it! – students count the number of items on the sheet and then clip pegs over the correct number of items
☆ Scoop it! – students use a spoon to scoop pom poms into the cones
☆ Mould it! – students use playdough to replicate the images on each card
☆ Cut It! – students practice cutting skills on strips of paper
☆ Roll it! – number recognition is practiced in this fun game
☆ Subtract it! – with the help of some cookies and a cookie jar, students practice solving subtraction sums
☆ Add it! – with the help of some googly eyes and monsters, students practice solving addition sums
